Of March & April 2013

Okay. I'm just too lazy to update my blog already, plus I really have no time to do it. Excuses excuses~~

I don't really remember what I did in April and had to go through my FB pictures to recall back. Pictures are really helpful sometimes.. So, this is gonna be a picture-loaded post!!!

Here goes. Right before my mid-semester break, had this Dean's List Ceremony. I am proud to say that I have gotten Dean for 3 continuous semesters!!! (Although for the final paper, we had really obvious tips from friends and lecturers XD)

They are my very pretty housemates.

And my coursemates.

Dean for Year 1 Sem 2 and Year 2 Sem 1!!

Then, I forgot when was it, but it was after my mid-semester break too. We got our BB1M worth of RM 250 vouchers. Since Melaka was only a small place, and there weren't much bookstores there, me and dar came to KL to shop at Kinokuniya@KLCC and MPH@Mid Valley. It was really a fun trip. I also brought him to my favourite beef noodle stall at Bukit Bintang. Just the two of us. We came to KL by bus and traveled around KL by LRT.

Fried Rice with 猪排.
At 鼎泰丰 @Mid Valley for lunch.
Their Xiao Long Pao were really delicious and juicy~

Beef Noodles @Bukit Bintang.
Had been eating this since I was young. I don't know the name of the place. I just know how to get there XP

Books and some stationary I got.
YES!!! ME LOVE ROMANCE NOVELS~~

Then, some random photo...

Our family portrait!!
Had been planning to have this since last year.
This was our second family portrait. The first one was taken when I was 13 with my grandma. She's not here anymore.
And since all 3 of us grew up, Mum wanted to have another one~
P.S. Everyone said both my brothers are handsome. I don't find it true tho....

A week after my mid-semester break was UTeM's Spring Festival. Our choir team had the chance to perform again, just like last year. This year was abit different. We had new juniors joining us and all the old seniors who performed last year were mainly joining the committee except for me, dar and our pianist, Nian Yie.

Spot me spot me!!
We are all doing Gyiyomi~~
Had been planning on what to wear for performance. We wanted a baby blue scarf to match the boys' dark blue tie.
But in the end, we decided to go for the same dark blue colour ribbon.

The boy who looked handsome that day <3
Look like wedding photo meh??!!

Contact lenses. Haven't been wearing them for such a loooooooong time...

Me and Chia Min.

A picture of us during rehearsals.
We performed 2 songs. 瑶山夜曲 and Mamma Mia.

A week after Spring Fest was the big day- KKKC Prom 2013!!!
Was one of the deco group committee and had been preparing for this event for almost a month. Furthermore, this was my first prom in Uni. Looked forward to it alot.
Early morning on the event day, we packed and headed to Holiday Inn to decorate the ballroom.

The theme for the prom was Angel and Devil. We WERE supposed to attend in either red, black or white but in the end, most of them came in other colours. To me, colour restriction just makes the event boring. People might have better dresses in other colours but due to colour restriction, they had to come in that only, ugly red dress they have..

Handmade souvenirs for the participants.
Black, devil wings and white, angel wings.
We spent a whole week to finish doing all 300+ souvenirs..

Prop-making in process. Red and black for devil.

Complete props.

Us during the partner game.

Didn't have much pictures for that day. Was busying around helping out. Honestly, I think this prom was just ok. Nothing special but not too bad.
Got some feedback from the participants. They said we shouldn't spend so much time on the souvenirs. Maybe just a simple, nicely edited photo of them taken on the spot will do.
Plus, dinner time was too short. It was meant to be a buffet, meaning u can eat all u want but I only had like one round of food. Not filling one summore...
And, there were only a few people who just 'syok sendiri' and the others didn't get to enjoy the dance. The dance floor was kinda small also...

Anyway... Like I said, this was my first prom in Uni. Would expect the next one to be better~
Really want to thank the Protocol Team alot for their effort in selling the tickets and to my Deco Team head to design all the banners, backdrop and invitation cards. He made me really interested in learning Adobe Photoshop. I have the software, just dunno how to use it.. XD

****************************************

Right. So after Spring Fest and Prom, our Uni was kinda happy with our results. We managed to invite around 1200 people to come join our Spring Fest even though we did not get much budget from HEPA (I think, that's what dar told me) , so the school had this Appreciation Night for us and paid for all the expenses.

It was really a rush. The dinner was on Tuesday night and we were informed on Saturday. No one had any idea what the place and food is like. We just went there to perform and eat. Sadly, the food sucked ( of course lah.. FREE one mah.. Can't expect too much~).
At least we were happy. All committees and performers for Spring Fest 2012 and 2013 were invited. Everyone was excited cos it's like our last time performing.
Here goes the pictures~!!

Hahahaha!!

That's all for these two months. Can't think of anything else already.
Glad that everything past so fast.

Ohh!! Almost forgot!!
I applied for the mobility program. The student exchange thing. To Germany.
Went for the interview last Thursday.
Stupid me.
I went back to KL on Wednesday because i bought the bus tickets. Then, early Thursday morning, I took the bus back to Melaka again for the interview and went back to KL again on the same day. I actually planned to just skip the interview but my Mum told me to go for it.
She was right. Even if I did not get the offer, at least I tried my best and did what I could.
And now, I'm still waiting for the news from my Faculty. Some said we could know by this week. Hopefully.
This whole thing is making me excited and worried.
Of course it would be amazing if I can get it. Getting to travel and study in some other country.
Whatever the news is, I just want to know it ASAP!!!

P.S. Yesterday was Malaysia's General Election. I am already 22 but I have not registered yet because my birthday is in October. Couldn't register in time.
The results came out today, with people saying it wasn't fair and they wanted a re-election. I don't know if it's true or not cos I did not see it with my own eyes. I just get to know everything from FB.
It doesn't matter who won. The least thing you can do is to do better and to get true votes from the people, not win through dirty tricks.

Vivian

3D2N to Penang

Had been planning for this Penang trip since last year. We bought the plane tickets together with the Sabah ticket.
Was actually kinda nervous for this trip because dar's hometown is in Penang. It was also the first time meeting his parents XD
Dar planned everything for us for the 3 days we're there.

Before the day we left, I had been Googling Must-Try-Food in Penang. It just makes me salivate. I feel like eating everything I see. Too bad I only have a stomach and three days just wasn't enough!!

Day 1

From Melaka, we took the Transnational bus to LCCT. The trip took 2 hours plus. At LCCT, we had dinch/teabreak and boarded the plane at 6pm. We arrived in Penang at 7pm and took the van to Tune Hotel at Georgetown. After dropping off our luggage, we took the taxi to Straits Quay for dinner @ Charlie Brown Cafe.

Straits Quay.
They have a jetty there with all the private boats, and there's also a live band.

The food in Charlie Brown looked good, but it wasn't really tasty. It was rather expensive too... The others wanted to go there because that was the only one in Malaysia.

After we had our late dinner, we took the taxi back to the hotel, and dar's parents came to pick us up.

The first thing that I thought about  dar's mum : She's a very joyful person.
She laughs alot, and would always smile. Dar said that's the way she acts when she meets someone new. She's normally not like that. Anyway, she was very nice to me and would talk nonstop, just like dar XD
For these 3 days, we were all very happy to have her bring us around.
In contrast, dar's dad was the quiet one. He would just drive us around in the car silently. But he was very kind to me too. He kept offering food for me and I was too full, so I pushed most of it to dar XDD

Day 2

Early morning the next day, me, dar and his parents went to Tune Hotel to fetch the others.
Then, we went for breakfast nearby a market at Pulau Tikus.

Prawn Mee aka Penang's Hokkien Mee, RM 3.

Curry Mee, RM 3.

Char Kuey Teow, RM 4.

After breakfast, we went to some temple called 睡佛 and then to Esplanade.

Group photo, from left:
Lup Yeng,  CJM, Wee Pin, Dar, Me, Charlee, Doris, Carmen and Carrie~

For lunch, we accidentally passed Line Clear Nasi Kandar and stopped by~

Never heard of this before..
But our lecturer said we must try it...

Nasi Kandar with sotong sambal

After having Nasi Kandar, we walked over for the famous Penang Road Cendol for dessert.

Cendol~

ABC

After filling up our tummy, we went to Gurney for a walk. Before we left, we went to Swensen's for ice-cream~

Sizzling ice-cream.
Banana crumble with vanilla ice-cream, topped with fresh banana slices and butterscotch caramel.

This is very mouth-watering, but very sweet. Too sweet it causes toothache.

Chocolate Fondue.
For fondue, I would prefer the one sold in Baskin Robbin.
They provide many different ice-cream flavours and of course, cheaper.

After some shopping, dar's parents came to Gurney to fetch us for dinch~
We tried out the famous Chay Kuey Teow at Lorong Selamat

Char Kuey Teow @ Lorong Selamat.  RM 8.
Yes. RM 8 for this plate of Char Kuey Teow...

Oh Jian 蚝煎
This one is delicious. I've only tried Oh Jian twice. Once in Taiwan, the other is here.
The Oh Jian here tastes delicious because it's mostly egg, with huge "Oh"-s, and the chilli sauce goes well with it.

At 姓周桥~

The famous Malaysian movie 初恋红豆饼 was filmed here..

After the bridge, we drove over to the mural paintings area. There, they have many narrow streets with random mural paintings on the walls. It's actually quite dangerous to snap photos there cos' there are cars passing by.

The Penang-Must-Visit place. Mural painting..
The girls. Carmen, Doris, Carrie, Charlee n me~

The boys.
Jared, Dar, Wee Pin, CJM n Lup Yeng.

After the mural painting, our final activity for the day was the Foam Party @ Hard Rock Hotel. Doris found discounts for the entry passes online. The actual price was RM 30 but we bought it for RM 20.
It "sounded" fun, but I was quite disappointed after that.
The surrounding was beautiful, but the foam and DJ sucked.
The bubble smelt like rotten butter + washing detergent!! And the DJ just played her songs quietly... The atmosphere was kinda boring. In the end, we just went swimming around the pool.

Gigantic guitar outside the hotel.

Smelly bubbles..

Me and dar at the pool.

After the exhausting day, we had supper at some shop nearby the hotel. Then, me and dar headed back home. It was already almost 2am when we slept..

Day 3
Woke up the next morning and had breakfast with dar's family.
Then, we headed to the hotel to fetch the others for Penang Hill.
After buying our tickets, we took the cable car up to the hill. The cable car was quite fast. It took only about 5 mins to reach the hill top.

We bought the tickets for RM 4 only because we had the Kad Siswa.
For foreigners, they charge RM 30. Crazy........... >.<

Waiting for the cable car to arrive~

We could see the whole of Penang from the hill. Penang bridge is that small, thin line behind me.

Up in Penang Hill, there is also an Owl Museum. After wandering around Penang Hill, we visited the museum before we came back down. The entrance tickets into the museum costs RM 5 with our Kad Siswa.

A very cute painting of the owls.

A carved owl statue they have there.

O-W-L-SSSS~~

After Penang Hill, we went back to a coffee shop nearby dar's house for lunch. Our last meal before heading back to Melaka..

Penang Style Loh Bak 卤肉.

猪脚饭 Pork's Limb Rice.

Popiah

Otak-otak. Made from chilli, spices and fish meat.

Asam Laksa that comes with fried popiah.

Pasembur.
I've always heard dar talking bout this, but I've never seen nor tried it before.
Now I finally know what this is.
It's something like rojak, just that it doesn't use shrimp paste sauce.

Mua Chee.
This is the tastiest Mua Chee that I have ever tried!!
It's still warm when we bought it, and besides peanut, they also mix it with fried onion.
Super Q~~!!!

Right before we went to the airport, we have an hour or so to shop around Queensbay Mall. At 5pm, we left for the airport as our flight was at 6.30 pm.

That's all for my 3D 2N Penang trip.
It was really an enjoyable trip, especially for food-lovers, like ME XD
For this whole trip, only spent about RM 150, mostly on food. Saved the hotel money cos I was staying over at dar's place. But the hotel wasn't' too expensive either. RM 50++ for 2 nights at Tune Hotel =)

Would really want to go there again to try out other Penang food.
Penang is truly a FOOD PARADISE!!!
Haven't stop eating since we arrived... XP
